Both the CM1150V and CM1200 have 4 Ethernet ports. That does not mean you don’t need a router. These four Ethernet ports support future multi-gig services by using link aggregation and two or more different IP addresses. The CM1100 has two Ethernet ports for the same purpose of future link aggregation. If you want a multi-gig cable modem (2.5 Gbps) without the need for aggregation, you’d like the CM2000 or CM2050V with XFINITY voice support. I know NETGEAR does not do a very good job explaining this to potential buyers and I hope this helps someone.

which “engineer”? It was probably “beancounters” in marketing.
this CM1200 model has 4 ethernet ports. but only 2 are functional.
the first 2 ports can be Link Aggregated, to get downloads up to 2 Gbps.
the other 2 ports are mere decoration to trick naive trusting people to buy this model.
not to overlook, Netgear only certifies this model to 800 Mbps with Xfinity.

the short answer is NO. only one ethernet connection (of 4) is usable.
the longer answer is, according to Netgear support Chat, it might be possible to use more than one ethernet port.
BUT only if your ISP can provide a Public IP address for each ethernet port you connect to.
that means you’d have to pay for multiple Internet accounts.

SUMMARY: to use multiple ethernet ports with this CM1200, it will cost more ISP fees than just buying a better modem.
and even if you did contract multiple accounts with your ISP,
the connected routers would not be able to communicate to each other on a local sub-net.
furthermore, the CM1200 User Manual does NOT describe using it with multiple Public IP addresses.
in fact, the User Manual describes using only 2 ports max, with Link Aggregation, which does NOT boost download speed.
so the idea the Chat Agent suggested, that it “might” be possible to use multiple ports “if” the ISP supplies more IP addresses
that’s speculation and it likely won’t actually work.
evidently Netgear does not document using the CM1200 this way, and surely would not support it.
